2012 was the tenth anniversary of the Friends of Croham Hurst Woods which was formed because we wanted a local voice and input into the care of our beautiful ancient woodland in South Croydon.
In 2002 Councillor Maria Gatland, who walks in the woods every day with her dogs, made a promise that if she was elected as a local councillor she would set up a Friends Group as so many people had expressed their concerns about the Hurst.
Maria was elected in May 2002 and in November she called a public meeting along with two other people. Over 50 people attended the meeting and the Friends of Croham Hurst Woods was formed.
Now the committee is made up of the following:
Maria Gatland – Chair
Ian Mitchell – Treasurer
Ann Kellaway – Secretary
David Coups
Nick Gill
